NIBONG TEBAL: A prison detainee, undergoing treatment, escaped from the Sungai Bakap Hospital here today.
Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Ng Ah Thiam said the detainee had been identified as Nordin Ahmad, 54.
He said, about 4pm today, a prison warden lodged a police report on a detainee who ran away from the hospital.
"The incident happened at the Tibi quarantine wad.
"The detainee had on a gray-colour T-shirt and black shorts during the escape.
"Following the incident, the district police headquarters had launched the Op Tutup to track down the detainee," he said tonight.
Ng said the public's cooperation was very much needed.

The latest incident came less than a week after a detainee escaped from the lock-up at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
The incident happened when police were in the process of taking the detainee to court.
He was rearrested several hours later.
