KUALA LUMPUR: Police believe the improvised explosive device (IED) found on the underside of lawyer Siti Zabedah Kasim's car is a murder attempt.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police were actively tracking down suspects through fingerprints and other evidence.
"This is a serious crime. The threat involved is equivalent to attempted murder.
"Further investigations are being carried out by the Kuala Lumpur police," he said when contacted today.
He asked the public not to speculate on the case and affect the investigation.
Police had confirmed that the bomb-like object planted on lawyer and activist Siti Kasim's car tyre was an IED.
Before that, a bomb disposal unit (UPB) carried out an explosion test on the object placed on the car's rear tyre.
On Friday, Siti Kasim, in a Facebook post, said she was alerted to the object attached to one of her car's tyres after she sent her car for servicing at a workshop in Bangsar here.
She had said the object looked like a bomb and she called the police.
She had said only two groups could do such a thing — the "Islamofacists" and those angry at her for criticising a political party.
