Taxi driver found dead with multiple injuries

KUALA NERUS: A 51-year-old man was found dead with multiple injuries at the back of his body, last night.

The body, believed to be covered in blood, was found in the backseat of a taxi near a clinic in Seberang Takir.

Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Md Din said the police received a call from the public at 10.56pm last night to inform them about the incident.

He added that a police team was sent to the location for inspection and found two men in the taxi.

"Further inspection discovered that there was a man with his clothes covered in blood sitting in the driver's seat, while another man sitting at the passenger's side in the back was seriously injured and immobile.

"Following this, examination by a medical officer confirmed that the victim in the backseat had died.

"The police also seized a knife found at the driver's footrest for further investigation," he said when met at the location.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim said preliminary investigation discovered that the victim was the taxi driver, while the 29-year-old suspect was a passenger.

He added that further investigation is underway to identify the cause of the incident.

"The body has been sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu for an autopsy.

"The suspect, meanwhile, has been taken to court this morning for remand application.

"The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.
