KUALA LUMPUR: Investigation papers (IP) related to 3R issues (race, religion and royalty) on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang have been referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the IP involving Dr Mahathir was submitted to the AGC on Sept 5, while IP involving Abdul Hadi was submitted this morning.
Razaruddin said the police will not hesitate to take stern action against those who bring up 3R issues, especially involving the royal institutions.
"We will not give face to those who bring up the 3R issues. We do not want the nine Malay Rulers to be insulted.
"The same goes with issues involving race and religion, which can divide the spirit of comradeship among the multiracial Malaysians," he told reporters after the 4th National Forensic Science Symposium for Law Enforcement (NAFSLE 2023) here today.
Asked if the investigations in relation to 3R by the police were due to the political hidden hands, as claimed by certain quarters, Razarudin said it was baseless.
"We are not only going after politicians but anyone who plays with 3R issues.
Razarudin said even the previous government had stressed on the 3R issue.
"Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (former prime minister) said that one should not play with 3R issues, the same goes with Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (former de facto law minister).
"Any government that is in power, we do not want 3R issue being played, causing a mess to the country.
"That is our approach, not that we are being instructed or forced to do so (take action against those who play up the 3R issues)," he said.
Asked if there is a need to improve the existing special unit on 3R, Razarudin said; "There is no need for it for the time being. The task force, with 32 officers, that we have now is enough... finishing the investigation within seven days.
"Although we may have submitted the IP papers to the AGC, it will come back to us with suggestions from the AGC.
"More detailed info might be needed such as forensic data among others," he said.
Meanwhile, Razarudin said the police will be recording Muhyiddin's statement in connection to the fatwa fiasco on Sept 12.
Previously, Muhyiddin was scheduled to have his statement taken on Sept 11.
"However, he requested for Sept 12 due as he has matters to attend to."
