ALOR STAR: The magistrate's court here fined a youth RM1,000 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of lodging a false police report earlier this month.
Muhammad Arif Muhainin Anuar, 21, entered a guilty plea when the charge was read by the court interpreter before magistrate Siti Norhidayah Mohd Noor.
According to the charge, the accused had lodge the false report at the Kota Setar police station about 3.50pm on Jan 6.
He had lodged a false police report claiming that he was cornered by three men armed with knuckledusters at a shopping mall demanding that he pay RM150 for parking.
However, police investigations revealed that Arif had lodged a false report to cover up the truth from his parents after he paid RM270 to an individual to hire a prostitute through a mobile application.
Arif was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code which carries up to six months' imprisonment and maximum fine of RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor J. Banusha prosecuted while lawyer Saidina Khatijah Zaharah Khairulnisak Mohd Noor represented the accused.
At the same court, four other individuals were fined between RM1,000 and RM1,200 each after pleading guilty to charges of lodging false police reports.
Eatery worker Kalson Soon Yi Yun, 24, was fined RM1,200 for lodging a false police report at the Kota Setar police station at 4.28pm on Jan 10.
According to the charge, the accused lodged a report claiming that he was robbed by two men but police investigations revealed that he filed the report to avoid from being scolded by his mother for using money from the eatery sales for online gambling.
Banusha prosecuted the case while lawyer Zuriyah Mhd Nordin appeared for the accused.
The court also fined three other individuals Muhamad Haikal Ikhwan Roslan Apandi, 19; Nor Fazlini Ahmad, 40; and Kelvin Goh, 23, after their pleaded guilty to separate charge of lodging false police report in Kota Setar district.
