ALOR GAJAH: The decapitated body of a woman was discovered in a rubbish bin along the Alor Gajah-Tampin trunk road, near Kampung Rimau, Pulau Sebang on New Year's eve.
Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Arshad Abu said preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was murdered, with her head, arms, and legs cut off before her dismembered body parts were stuffed into a bin and dumped in a drain by the side of the road.
He said the body parts found at about 2pm on Dec 31 were incomplete, and did not have any identifications on it or at the scene of discovery.
"A police team conducted an investigation at the scene and the body has been sent to the Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
"Police only found the victim's head, both arms, and legs from knees down believed to have been severed, along with a piece of red cloth under the body. The victim is estimated to be aged between her 20s and 30s, and forensic experts confirmed that the victim is a woman," he said in a statement here.
Arshad said the body was in a state of decomposition when it was discovered, suggesting that the woman had been dead for seven to 10 days.
"The police also conducted deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) tests on two missing persons cases in the past month, but the results were negative.
"The case is classified as murder and is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.
He urged anyone who had lost a close family member or missing individuals to contact the police or anyone with information about the case to assist in the investigation.
"The public can contact the nearest police station or the Alor Gajah District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 06-5562222 or Senior Investigating Officer Deputy Superintendent Mohd Ali Hanafiah Hasim at 019-9536277," he said.
