Ex-Home Ministry principal assistant secretary claims trial to submitting false claims

KUALA LUMPUR: A former principal assistant secretary of the Home Ministry has claimed trial for submitting false claims amounting to more than RM5,000.

The accused, Ku Aznal Shahri bin Ku Abd Hamid, 49, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him before Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi, here, today.

Ku Aznal was alleged to have submitted 10 claims involving documents such as hotel rental invoices, domestic travel allowance statement documents, and toll payment claims containing false details, totaling RM5,720.30 to the ministry.

He faces 10 charges under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, 10 alternative charges under Section 471 of the Penal Code, and one charge under Section 471 of the Penal Code.

Azura allowed the accused to be released on bail in the amount of RM4,000 with one surety, and his passport to be surrendered to the court.

The court set April 4 for case mention.
