BUKIT MERTAJAM: A disabled man died during a robbery at his home in Guar Perahu, here, this morning.
Police were alerted to the incident at 8.36am by the victim's elderly father.
The senior citizen, in his 80s, told police that he found his house in disarray when he woke up this morning.
He then found both his wife and mute son, bound and gagged. The son, in his 40s, was unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene.
Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said: "About 6.30am, the father, who was sleeping in a separate room, got up and went to his wife's room.
"He found the woman, in her 70s, with both her hands and feet bound by cable tie, and her mouth stuffed with a piece of cloth. She had injuries on her right fingers.
"The father then went to his son's room and found the man, in his 40s, unconscious on the floor.
"He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene," he said tonight.
Helmi added that the victim's body was taken to the Forensic Unit of the Bukit Mertajam Hospital for a post-mortem.
He said preliminary investigations showed that two unidentified men, armed with parang, broke into the house, tied up the occupants, and made off with some cash, and a television.
Following the incident, a man in his 40s, with a history of criminal, and drug-related offences, was detained for questioning.
"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, for murder.
"We urge those with information, or who witnessed the incident, to come forward to assist in the investigation.
