Disabled teenager suffering from cerebral palsy dies

KUALA TERENGGANU: Muhamad Danish Iskandar Abdul Malik, affectionately known as Boy, a disabled teenager suffering from cerebral palsy, passed away early this morning.

Boy, 18, died around 1.15am at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) here due to lung complications.

Previously, Harian Metro reported that Boy was abandoned by his biological mother when he was three months old, after she moved to Kuala Lumpur.

Since then, he was cared for by his adoptive parents, Noraini Muda, 48, and Rozmi Awang, 55, from Kampung Laut.

Rozmi said that his son frequently experienced seizures and was referred to HSNZ last Monday, where he was diagnosed with a lung infection.

"Boy was treated in the intensive care unit for four days before he passed away. My wife and I are deeply saddened by his passing, but we accept Allah's will.

"Although Boy was an adopted child, we treated him just like our other children, and our family will miss him dearly," he said when met at the Kampung Laut Muslim cemetery today.

He added that he was grateful that Boy breathed his last in his biological mother's arms, who came after being informed of her son's condition.

"Boy's biological mother travelled from Kuala Lumpur by bus to see him for the last time, and Alhamdulillah, Boy's final wish to meet his mother was fulfilled as he passed away in her arms and with our family," he said.

Rozmi said Boy's breathing, which was usually unstable, would normalise whenever the call to prayer was heard.

"Boy's breathing was laboured most of the time, but would become normal during the call to prayer," he said.
