Masked men tie up octogenarian, escape with valuables

JERANTUT: A senior citizen was attacked in his home before masked robbers escaped with valuables worth RM1,600 at Felda Sungai Tekam near here yesterday (May 9).

The 85-year-old victim had his hands tied with a rubber hose and mouth stuffed with a piece of batik cloth in the 8pm incident.

District police chief Superintendent Zukri Muhammad said two masked men trailed the victim as he was about to enter his house.

"The perpetrators shoved the victim into the house before binding his hands and stuffing his mouth with batik cloth. They took him into his bedroom.

"The suspects searched his room before taking RM1,200 cash, bank cards and a handphone. The duo fled the premises, leaving the victim alone inside the bedroom.

"The victim managed to free himself before alerting neighbours and he lodged a police report. He suffered some bruises on his hands and was taken to Jerantut hospital for treatment," he said, adding the case is investigated under Section 395/397 for armed robbery.

Zukri said investigations revealed the victim lived in the house with his son, who was at work during the incident.
