KLANG: Twenty men between the ages of 26 and 51 were charged in the Sessions Court here, today, with participating in organised crime activities in the 'Geng TR' group for the past five years.
The individuals involved are N.Nithiyan, 39; S.Logan, 32; R.Parthipan, 32; M.Keshava Nair; 30; A.Balamurugan, 40; V.S Wilbert, 46; M.Ramakrishnan, 45; E.Mohan, 34; M.Thanasekaran, 44; and Edward Liew, 49.
Also charged are S.Manoraj, 28; M.Warning, 30; S.Hemanathan, 31; K.Thana Seelan, 38; K.Ravishankar, 43; Muhammad Razi Abdullah, 51; G.Deeneskumar, 29; K.Venaigaraj, 32; A.Kogilan, 26; and M.Tineshkumar, 26.
All of the accused nodded when the charges were presented against them in front of Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahya.
No confession was recorded as the case is under the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) which is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charges, they were alleged to have committed the offence at a restaurant in Jalan Bagan Sungai Janggut, Jeram, near Kuala Selangor from November 2019 to May 2, this year.
The charges are filed under Section 130V (1) of the Penal Code which carries a prison sentence of between five and 20 years, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Shafiq Hasim, Lina Hanini Ismail and Syafinas Shabudin appeared for the prosecution.
Fourteen of the accused were represented by lawyers Ayasamy Velu, Naizatul Zamrina Karizaman, Revin Kumar, and S. Vinesh, and the remaining six were unrepresented.
Judge Ahmad Faizadh fixed June 26 for re-mention of the case for the transfer of the proceedings to the High Court.
