Court grants MACC additional 3-day remand in bribery case against govt director

KOTA BARU: The state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today obtained a further three-day remand order against the director of a government department who was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly receiving bribes.

Kelantan MACC director Rosli Husain said that the extension of the remand order, which begins tomorrow, was granted by the magistrate's court here.

He stated that the new remand order was sought to enable the MACC to continue its investigation into the case.

Yesterday, the MACC obtained a two-day remand order against the 58-year-old director from the same court.

The remand order ended today.

On Wednesday, the MACC arrested the director for allegedly accepting bribes totaling more than RM100,000.

The man was detained at the state MACC office in Lundang here.

Sources said that the director in question, who heads an enforcement department, is believed to have received the money from the department's clients in exchange for approving contract works .

"The director allegedly accepted the bribes as an inducement for facilitating the approval of these works," the source disclosed.
