KOTA BARU: The director of a government department, who was arrested last week for allegedly receiving bribes, was released on a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail today.
State MACC director Rosli Husain said the 58-year-old man was released with a RM20,000 bail in two sureties.
"MACC has yet to charge the director as investigations into the case are still ongoing," he said.
The man was first arrested by the MACC last Wednesday for allegedly accepting more than RM100,000. He was detained at the state MACC office in Lundang here.
On Friday, MACC obtained a further three-day remand order against the suspect for allegedly receiving bribes.
The extension of the remand order was granted by the magistrate's court here.
Sources said the suspect, who heads an enforcement department, is believed to have received money from the department's clients in exchange for approving contract works.
"The director allegedly accepted the bribes as an inducement for facilitating the approval of these works," the sources revealed.
