KOTA TINGGI: A 35-year-old man was tragically killed while assisting a victim of a car accident at KM18.8 of the Sungai Rengit-Jalan Kota Tinggi yesterday.
Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Hussin Zamora said that the incident was brought to the police's attention at 5.20pm.
The initial accident involved a Perodua Axia, driven by a 33-year-old man travelling from Sungai Rengit to Kota Tinggi, which skidded on its own.
"A local man driving a Toyota Hilux from the opposite direction witnessed the accident and stopped to help the victim," said Hussin.
"While the 35-year-old good Samaritan was assisting, a Mitsubishi Triton driven by a 27-year-old man, with two passengers aged 26 and 27 from Sungai Rengit, crashed into him.
As a result, the Toyota Hilux driver sustained internal injuries and died at the scene. His body was sent to the Kota Tinggi Hospital forensics unit.
The driver and passengers of the Triton also suffered injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital, while the Perodua Axia driver, who sustained minor injuries, is being treated at a private hospital in Pasir Gudang.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, with the case being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
