LABUAN: The Customs Department in Labuan has seized 34 vehicles for not returning to the duty-free island after the 90-day period expired.
Labuan Customs director Aspalila A.G. Tuah today said the operations team tracked down vehicle owners who had violated the condition.
"During the operation, 34 vehicles with a total value of RM3,085,030 were seized.
"The vehicles involved owners who violated the conditions under Item 14 of the Customs Duties (Exemption) Order 2017."
She said that according to Item 14, vehicles bought in the duty-free islands of Langkawi and Labuan were allowed to enter the Principal Customs Area (KUK) for no more than 90 days in a year.
"The modus operandi detected was that these vehicles were taken into the KUK using the facility under Item 14, but did not return to the duty-free island after the period expired."
