ARAU: An unemployed man, 39, detained for allegedly orchestrating the abduction of a Thai woman yesterday, has been remanded on the discovery of drugs at a guesthouse here.
Arau police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi today said the suspect, from Mata Ayer, Arau, was nabbed about 10.30pm following a police operation to rescue the woman, who had been confined to a room at the guesthouse in Jejawi.
"During the raid, the suspect was found in the guesthouse's attic. Interrogation led police to inspect an air-conditioning compressor on the top floor of the building.
"Further checks led to the discovery of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 37.03gm.
"Police also found a substance suspected to be heroine weighing 37.05gm."
He added that the suspect said the drugs belonged to him and that he had obtained them from an acquaintance in Seberang Jaya, Penang.
"Urine tests confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in the suspect. The suspect has three drug-related offenses dating to 2008.
"The estimated value of the drugs is RM4,500."
Earlier, the suspect was among three people, including two women, aged 30 and 38, detained for kidnapping the Thai woman, 36, in Jejawi, Arau.
The incident began when the victim, residing in Alor Star, was abducted with her boyfriend, 18, from Johor Baru, in Gunung Keriang, Kedah.
