KUALA LUMPUR: A factory operator was charged at the Sessions Court here on three counts of aiding the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.
The accused, Muhammad Aabid Zarkasi, 28, nodded in understanding after all three charges were read before judge Nabisha Ibrahim.
He was charged with possession of explosive materials to carry out the group's terrorist activities; possession of nine videos and five articles in PDF format on a Xiaomi mobile phone that are related to the actions of terrorists and the IS terrorist group and for producing explosive materials in preparation for carrying out a terrorist act.
He committed all three offences between Jan 28 and May 15 at Taman Serai Jaya, Bagan Serai, Perak.
He was charged under Section 130J(1)(a), Section 130JB (1)(a) and Section 130JD (1) of the penal code.
No plea was recorded and the court did not offer bail to Aabid.
The judge set July 11 for presentation of chemical report documents and mention of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutors, Rullizah Abdul Majid and Lina Hanini Ismail prosecuted, while the accused was not represented.
