PETALING JAYA: The grandfather of the late autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin has promised to rally behind his son and daughter-in-law who are facing a murder investigations of their son.
Zayn Rayyan's paternal grandfather, Zahari Mohd Reba, said he was relieved that the boy's mother did not make any guilty plea during a closed-door proceedings before a magistrate today.
"Alhamdulillah. Insya-Allah, all of our family members are strong. We will come to court again tomorrow," he said.
Zahari, who looked visibly distraught, refrained from commenting further and would leave the matter to the family's counsel.
The elder sister of Zayn Rayyan's mother said she felt the same way.
"My family and I travelled here from Damansara to get the latest development.
"She is the youngest of seven siblings. We will be here tomorrow," said the woman who declined to be named.
They were present during the press conference by counsels Fahmi Abd Moin and Mahmud Jumaat, who are separately representing the boy's father and mother, respectively.
The counsels were present during closed-door proceedings in which the police made an application under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act to extract a guilty plea from the boy's mother.
Both counsels objected to the application.
