Form Two student returning from class killed, another injured in motorcycle-lorry crash

LIPIS: A female pillion rider, who was returning home from attending Quran recital class, was killed while her friend sustained injuries when their motorcycle collided with a lorry at Km20 Jalan Lipis-Merapoh near Kampung Gua here yesterday.

Form Two student Nor Arisya Husniyah Azli Hisham, 14, was killed at the scene in the 5.50pm incident while her motorcyclist friend, also 14, was warded at Kuala Lipis Hospital.

District police chief Superintendent Ismail Man said Nor Arisya and her female friend had just completed their Quran recital class at Kampung Gua and were riding towards Padang Tengku while the lorry was travelling along Jalan Lipis-Merapoh.

"Investigations revealed that upon reaching the main road junction, the motorcyclist had attempted to cross the road when the machine was hit by the lorry which was travelling on the main stretch. Nor Arisya succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

"Police have recorded a statement from the 58-year-old lorry driver who was travelling from his workplace at Selborne estate near here to his house at Kampung Selindang. He escaped unhurt," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Ismail urged witnesses to come forward to assist police investigations.
