BUTTERWORTH: A 55-year-old man died when the room of his house in Jalan Assumption here was gutted in early morning blaze.
The victim has been identified as Liew Hoong Kwee. The Butterworth Fire and Rescue station was alerted to the fire at 1.28am.
Operations commander Mohd Faizwan Che Amat said when they arrived at the scene, they found a house on fire.
"The fire happened inside the bedroom. When we put out the fire, we found a man who was pronounced dead by paramedics," he said.
Faizwan said the victim's remains have been handed over to the police for the next course of action.
"Overhaul works are being carried out, assisted by volunteer firefighters.
"Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway," he added.
