MUAR: A man, who is engaged, was charged at the Sessions Court today with raping a minor in a car parked in front of her house last month.
The accused, Khairul Irsyad Khairuddin, 22, who works as a technician at a public university in Pagoh near here, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before judge Sayani Mohd Nor.
He was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in a car near here at 9pm on Nov 15. The offence carried a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and caning if convicted.
Based on the report, the victim came across the accused in a dating application before meeting him in person.
The victim was taken by the suspect in a car before stopping in front of her house, where the crime allegedly occurred.
In addition to rape, the suspect also threatened to spread a pornographic video of the victim and told her not to tell anyone what happened, including her parents.
The incident was uncovered when the victim filed a police report after being threatened by the accused.
She wanted to end the relationship once she found out that the accused was already engaged.
The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir, whereas the accused was represented by lawyer Nurul Qurratul Aini Md Roslan.
Earlier, the prosecution did not offer bail, citing that the accused lived near the victim and the threats he made against her.
After hearing the submissions and appeals from both parties, the court granted bail of RM15,000 in one surety and set the next mention for Jan 6 for the submission of documents.
