PENAMPANG: Police have arrested two foreigners to facilitate their investigation into a case of a woman assaulted by two other women, which was caught on a clip that has gone viral on social media.
The two, both female, were picked up by the police at two separate locations here yesterday.
District police chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said the first arrest involved an 18-year-old who was seen in the clip assaulting the victim.
The second arrest, he said, involved a 25-year-old woman who was the victim assaulted in the clip. She was arrested for not having valid identification documents.
"The Penampang district police headquarters have deployed a team to locate the other suspect involved in the assault," he said in a statement.
He added that a preliminary investigation showed that the motive of the assault was due to the victim's alleged affair with the husband of the suspect, who is still at large.
The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
"The case is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for staying in the country without valid pass or permits," he said.
The two-minute and 16-second clip showed the victim being assaulted by two others in an incident that is believed to have taken place in the parking lot of a supermarket here.
The clip showed the victim being slapped multiple times and her hair being pulled until she fell, after which the two women started to kick her.
