PADANG TERAP: A woman in her 30s was found dead, believed to have been shot, in Durian Burung near the Malaysia-Thailand border area yesterday.
Her body was discovered by the public lying near a dirt road before they alerted the police.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mulkiaman Manzar confirmed the incident and said the police received the report at 7 pm.
He said a team was dispatched to the scene and found the woman's body with gunshot wounds.
"Initial investigations suggest the woman is believed to be a Thai national, but further investigations are ongoing," he said when contacted today.
Mulkiaman said the woman's body was taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's forensics department in Alor Star for a post-mortem examination.
He added that the police were currently searching for a suspect who is believed to have fled.
"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code," he said.
Meanwhile, Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh is expected to provide further information regarding the incident soon.
