Foreign national held over pickpocketing at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained a foreign national who was allegedly involved in a pickpocketing incident at Terminal 1, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Friday.

KLIA district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azman Shari'at said the suspect, who was caught yesterday, had allegedly stolen a wallet from the public the previous evening.

He said the victim lodged a police report at 2.04am yesterday, and the theft occurred around 9.45pm the day before.

Upon being pursued by bystanders, the suspect attempted to flee, but the police successfully arrested him.

"An investigation has been launched under the Penal Code (for endangering the personal safety of others) and the Immigration Act 1957," he said.

The suspect is under a four-day remand until Tuesday.

The police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
