KUALA LUMPUR: Police have seized fake medals and emblems involving the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang from a man who allegedly used a fake Datuk Seri title.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the suspect had been using the fake title for several years.
"We received a report from the Jumaah Pangkuan Diraja Negeri Pahang (Royal House of Pahang) on the improper use of the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Sultan Ahmad Shah Pahang by the suspect.
"Investigations revealed the man, who is a telecommunications company director, has been using the title for several years," he said in a statement today.
He said items linked to the fake title scam had been seized including emblems and medals.
"Investigations are ongoing to identify other suspects involved in the syndicate behind the forging of fake titles. We advise the public to refrain from using fake titles as it is an offence," he said.
He said in this particular case those guilty could be charged under Section 3(1)(a) of the Pahang Emblems, Titles and Awards (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 2017 [Enactment No.18 Year 2017] for improper use of titles for business reasons.
"Those found guilty could face a minimum fine of RM200,000 and a maximum RM500,000 fine or between one and five years jail or both upon conviction," he said.
Bernama had on July 31 reported that Pahang police received a report on a board member of a telecommunications company who was allegedly using a fake "Datuk Seri" title.
Several individuals have since been called by police to give their statements about the case.
