Two policemen injured in scuffle with parang-wielding drug suspect

TELUK INTAN: Two policemen were injured while trying to arrest a suspected drug offender, who was armed with a parang, here yesterday.

Corporal Mohd Rasyidi Che Ross sustained a torn vein in his left wrist, requiring surgery, while Inspector Tie Ngie Sieng suffered a four-centimetre gash on his left arm during the 5.40 pm incident.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the incident occurred when the policemen were deployed to arrest the 43-year-old suspect following a complaint by a family member.

Tensions escalated when the suspect refused to allow the policemen to carry out checks at his house in Taman Melati Padang Tembak.

A scuffle broke out when the suspect ran amok and wielded the parang against the policemen. The suspect was successfully apprehended.

"Police found 84.72g of ganja and 5.54g of methamphetamine in the suspect's house," he said in a statement today.

He added that the two policemen and the suspect were taken to Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment.

"Urine tests showed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine," he said.
