TASEK GELUGOR: A robbery at a grocery store on Jalan Pokok Machang yesterday has gained attention after video footage of the incident went viral earlier today.
The police are now investigating the case following a report filed by a woman last night.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman, said the woman informed authorities that her employee, a Pakistani national, was involved in an armed robbery carried out by an unknown man.
"The suspect, armed with a parang, arrived at the store on a motorcycle, though the make and registration number remain unidentified.
"The investigating officer visited the scene and confirmed that CCTV footage from a nearby camera captured the robbery. However, the suspect's face was obscured by a dark helmet and face mask," he said.
"The estimated losses from the robbery were around RM2,500 — the cash collected from the store's sales for the day," he added.
Anuar said that the case was being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery.
He also urged the public to avoid sensationalising the incident, which could disturb public order during the ongoing investigation.
"We encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation," he added.
