SEPANG: The father and his underaged son who drove a car with his two siblings in a residential area will be charged in the Sepang Court tomorrow.
Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the 53-year-old father is expected to face charges under Section 31 (1) of the Children's Act 2001 and Section 39 (5) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"His 12-year-old son will be charged under Section 39 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, with punishment under Section 39 (5) of the same act," he said in a statement today.
It was reported that police had questioned the father of an underaged boy who was caught on a video going for a joyride in a Perodua Viva with his younger siblings.
Police were alerted about the video at 6.30pm on July 29.
An investigation revealed that the incident occurred at Taman Putra Impiana, Puchong at 8pm on July 28.
Further checks showed that the Perodua Viva car was being driven by a 12-year-old boy with his two younger brothers aged 4 and 6 as occupants.
They were joy-riding in the neighbourhood. The incident went viral on social media.
In the almost two-minute video clip, a woman was seen reprimanding the eldest of the three boys who was driving the Perodua Viva. There were two other children, believed to be his siblings, in the car.
It is understood that this was not the first time the trio were seen driving around unaccompanied.
They had allegedly been spotted with the vehicle several times before, although the exact locations were not known.
