KUALA LUMPUR: Police have announced charges against a 35-year-old father and his 12-year-old son following a viral video that showed the underage boy driving a car in Sepang.
Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said after submitting the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor, authorities were instructed to charge both the father and the son.
The father will face charges under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act, while the boy will be charged under Section 39(1) of the same Act, which prohibits anyone under the age of 16 from driving a vehicle on public roads.
The incident, which took place about 8pm on a Sunday, involved the 12-year-old boy taking his two younger brothers, aged four and six, for a drive in a Perodua Viva around their residential area.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, raising widespread concern.
The father was summoned to the police station that same night to provide a statement regarding the incident.
