Father of 12-year-old driving Perodua Viva questioned by police

SEPANG: Police have questioned the father of an underaged boy who was caught on video going for a joyride in a Perodua Viva with his younger siblings.

Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said police were alerted about the video at around 6.30pm on Monday.

"Our investigations revealed this incident occurred at Taman Putra Impiana, Puchong at around 8pm on Sunday.

"Further checks showed that the Perodua Viva car was being driven by a 12-year-old boy with his two younger brothers aged four and six. They were joy-riding in the neighbourhood," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said following the video, the boys father, who is also the owner of the vehicle, was identified and called to the Sepang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department office.

"The man came together with his children for questioning at around 11pm yesterday (July 29).

"We have opened investigations under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act for underage driving," he said.

It was reported that police were tracking down the parents of three underage siblings seen in a car which one of them was driving, after a video of them went viral on social media and messaging apps.

In the almost two-minute video clip, a woman was seen reprimanding the eldest of the three, the one who was driving the Perodua Viva, with two other children believed to be his siblings.

It is understood that this was not the first time the trio were seen driving around unaccompanied.

They have allegedly been spotted with the car several times before, although the exact locations are not known.

Those with information on the case can come forward to the Sepang police headquarters to help with further investigations.
