PETALING JAYA: Selangor police have disposed of more than RM1.5 million worth of seized items, including fireworks, cryptocurrency mining machines, contraband and gambling equipment.
State police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said 7,668 items were seized, involving 918 investigation papers.
"These investigation papers were opened between 2009 and 2024.
"In total, we seized 1,822 general items, comprising knives, machetes, rods, electronics and documents, such as forensic and chemistry reports, worth RM40,000," he said at the Ara Damansara Police Station today.
The disposal was witnessed by Petaling Jaya Sessions Court judge Sazlina Safie.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar and state Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief (intelligence/operations) Assistant Commissioner Ricky Tey also attended the event.
He said police also seized 631 fireworks worth RM10,000, and 2,111 cigarettes and alcohol worth RM160,260.
"Also seized were 531 cryptocurrency mining machines and related equipment worth RM480,000, as well as 2,573 gambling machines and other items worth RM547,000.
"We also seized RM149,108.50 in cash, an assortment of jewellery and RM650 in counterfeit notes," he said, adding that the fake notes were destroyed, while the cash and jewellery were handed over to the National Treasury.
He said the seized jewellery, cash, and counterfeit currency involved 458 investigation papers.
"All the items listed were seized based on investigation papers opened by Petaling Jaya police."
