Over RM1mil worth of fireworks seized in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Marine police have seized more than RM1 million worth of fireworks, including taxes, during a raid on a house in Jalan Sepanggar.

The raid, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, was carried out following reports of suspicious activity in the area.

Kota Kinabalu Marine police operations base commander, Assistant Superintendent Roslee Abd Rahman, said authorities found boxes containing various fireworks during the raid.

These included 399 units of Happy Boom, Red Crackers (Cake), 1'36 Shot Celebration, Noise Tricker Single Bang, Happy Boo Dush 30, and other fireworks.

"The total value of the seized items, including taxes, amounts to RM1,038,945.60," he said when contacted today.

He added that all the seized items were taken to the Kota Kinabalu Marine police base.

The case is being investigated under the Customs Act for offences related to the sale and storage of goods without licenses and permits for importing fireworks.
