KAJANG: A 14-year-old teenager died after he suddenly collapsed while playing football during a match in Semenyih here on Saturday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusuf said the teenager suddenly collapsed on the field during the first half of the football match.
The report over the incident, he said, was lodged by the 46-year-old coach of the football team at 4.08pm on the day it occurred.
"Investigations showed the teenager suddenly collapsed during the football match and was rushed to the nearest clinic.
"The teenager was then referred to Kajang Hospital for further treatment before he was pronounced dead at 2.04pm on the same day," Naazron said in a statement.
He added that a post-mortem conducted on the teenager confirmed that he had heart complications and asthma.
"The parents of the teenager were not around when the incident happened.
"Investigations also showed that the victim regularly played football despite having asthma since childhood as his condition was said to be not serious," he said, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.
