Diabetic double amputee succumbs to minor injury after road crash

KLUANG: A 67-year-old man who had lost both his legs due to diabetes died while being treated for a minor hand injury suffered in a road crash along Jalan Kahang Timur early today.

The man was being driven by his 24-year-old son from their home in Felda Kahang Timur to the Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for kidney dialysis when the car they were in crashed into the rear of a lorry parked on the road shoulder about 6.30am.

While his son escaped uninjured, Bah Seis Abdullah, who was in the front passenger seat, suffered minor injuries to his hands.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the road in the area was straight but in darkness due to the time of day and a lack of streetlights.

This, he said, was believed to have contributed to Bah Seis' son, Muhammad Haziq, not noticing the parked lorry.

He said the 37-year-old lorry driver was parked by the road shoulder awaiting his turn to enter the narrow path into the Felda Kahang oil palm plantation.

Bah Seis was sent to hospital to see to his injuries but died three hours later.

Bahrin said investigations were underway for reckless driving.

Police are said to be waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination to determine cause of death.
