SHAH ALAM: A car parts dealer has been arrested for running over a motorist following a road rage confrontation here.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred around 9.45pm on Oct 6 along Persiaran Kayangan near the Section 10 bus stop.
"We received a report from a 49-year-old naval trainer who claimed he was knocked down by a road bully.
"The victim claimed that he was driving with his family when a car abruptly squeezed in front of his vehicle and stopped," he said in a statement on Thursday.
According to Mohd Iqbal, the suspect exited his vehicle and approached the victim's car, knocking on the driver's side window.
"When the victim tried to open the door, the suspect attempted to grab the car keys but failed.
"The suspect and victim then got into a heated argument by the side of the road," he said, adding that the suspect then got back into his vehicle and tried to ram into the victim twice.
Mohd Iqbal said the victim dodged the first attempt, but the suspect managed to hit the victim the second time.
"The victim fell and his right leg was run over by the suspect's car before he fled the scene.
The victim later sought treatment at Shah Alam Hospital for a minor fracture in his leg.
Mohd Iqbal added that three days later, police conducted a raid at Meru Klang around 5.30pm, where they arrested the suspect and seized his vehicle.
"The suspect has been identified as a 26-year-old car parts dealer. He does not have a prior record but a urine test came back positive for benzo.
"The suspect will be remanded to facilitate further investigations for attempted murder and driving any vehicle in a manner so rash or negligent as to endanger human life under Section 307 and Section 279 of the Penal Code respectively," he said.
Mohd Iqbal added that investigations revealed that the incident was sparked when the suspect became enraged because the victim's car had blocked his car from turning left from Bulatan Kayangan at Section 10 heading toward Section 7.
"Motorists should be patient with one another and let cooler heads prevail when on the road to avoid untoward incidents from occurring.
"Stern action will be taken against those who intentionally break the law," he said.
