KUALA LUMPUR: The police have detained four men for alleged attempted murder and cable theft operation in Balakong early this morning.
Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abd Yusof said the district police headquarters (IPD) received a report at about 6am today on a group of men in two vehicles—a Nissan Frontier and a BMW — who deliberately and aggressively rammed into a vehicle belonging to the IPD's Criminal Investigation Division.
He said the policemen were conducting an operation and patrolling along Jalan Pekan Batu 11, Balakong, in Kajang, targeting cable theft activities.
"In this incident, the police fired five shots at the tyres of the suspects' vehicles as it was moving and ramming into the police vehicle, attempting to injure the officers, despite being ordered to stop," he said in a statement.
He said the suspects, aged between 28 and 36, were found to have multiple criminal and drug-related records.
Police also seized both vehicles and the cable theft equipment used in the crime.
The case is being investigated under the Penal Code for attempted murder.
"The case is also being investigated under Sections 379 and 511 for attempted cable theft, carrying a penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both," he said.
