KUALA MUDA: Police have arrested one of three men suspected in a daylight telecommunications cable theft in Sungai Petani, following the circulation of a viral video capturing the incident.
Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail confirmed that the arrest took place earlier today in Sungai Petani.
"The actions of the three suspects were brought to light by the public through a video showing them loading cables into the trunk of a car, which enabled police to identify them," he said.
The arrest was facilitated by information gathered from the viral video and accompanying images.
Authorities also seized a vehicle along with several items believed to be cables and cable-cutting tools.
Wan Azharuddin said that the investigation was aided by the visibility of the car's registration plate in the footage.
"Efforts are ongoing to locate the two remaining suspects who are still at large," he said.
In the viral video, three men were seen loading what appeared to be stolen telecommunications cables into the trunk of a Proton Persona in broad daylight in the heart of Sungai Petani Town.
