KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will summon 11 more people to assist in the investigation into the misappropriation of RM1.5 million from a public listed company.
Its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, when contacted by Buletin TV3 today, said the investigation into the case has just started, with 11 witnesses already providing their statements.
He added the MACC has identified and will call up 11 witnesses to assist with the investigation into the case.
"The investigation has just started, (and) so far, we have called 11 witnesses.
"We are expecting to call up 11 more witnesses, consisting of the involved parties.
"This case involves a project between the company and another party. There are two parties involved and we are looking into offences related to corruption, abuse of power and breach of trust," he said.
It was reported that three individuals, including a group chief executive officer suspected of misappropriating RM1.5 million from a public listed company, were remanded by the MACC on Thursday.
It is believed that the misappropriation involved a construction and mining project valued at approximately RM80 million.
A four-day remand order was issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin for two male suspects and one female suspect aged between 40 and 50 years old after the MACC's application was made at the Putrajaya Magistrate's court
Initial investigations revealed that the three suspects were also believed to be involved in setting up a company that was not approved by the board of directors for the purpose of carrying out a cooperative project valued at approximately RM258 million.
