Teen suspect in murder of Orang Asli girl remanded for 7 days [WATCH]

SUNGAI SIPUT: A teenage boy suspected of murdering a 10-year-old Orang Asli girl, who was reported missing and later found dead, has been remanded for seven days.

Magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan has ordered the remand of the 17-year-old suspect from today until Aug 25 to assist police with their investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The suspect, who is also a close relative of the victim, arrived at the Magistrate's Court here at 8.30am, today, dressed in a dark blue T-shirt and dark sports pants, and taken away 15 minutes later.

She was found in a swampy area in Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu, yesterday after being reported missing overnight.

Sungai Siput police chief Superintendent Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin, said a missing person report was received from the Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKOA) chairman at 1.20am on Aug 17, after she failed to return home since Aug 16.

Khaizam said the girl has been confirmed to have been raped before her murder.

Autopsy results revealed neck injuries and signs of genital trauma.
