Ex-marketing manager pleads not guilty to RM6.2m fraud charges

TAWAU: A former marketing manager pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to 26 charges of fraud amounting to RM6.2 million last year.

Mok Chuang Leon, 36, made the plea after all the charges were read to him before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.

The accused is alleged to have deceived and misled the company clerk at his workplace into handing over the money by submitting fabricated monthly sales statements for palm oil produced by Ampel Agent Dan Sawit Borneo Sdn Bhd.

The alleged crimes took place between February 2023 and February this year at a premise in Perdana Square Commercial Centre, Batu 3 1/2 Jalan Apas, here.

The accused was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.

Earlier, Prosecuting Officer Assistant Superintendent Jeffrey Kadisun proposed bail at RM5,000 for each charge, with two local sureties, with the additional condition that the accused must report to the investigating officer once a month.

Mok's lawyer, Chen Wen Jye, argued for a lower bail amount, stating his client is a single father of an 8-year-old son and currently unemployed.

The court allowed bail at RM4,000 for each charge, with two local sureties, along with the additional conditions requested by the prosecution. The case management and mention have been set for Oct 8 and 10.

The accused failed to pay the bail amount.
