BAU: The body of an Indonesian man who was buried while mining for gold at Gunung Tabai has been retrieved.
Bau police chief Deputy Superintendent Jawai Francis Kempas said the body of Yoga Anggiska, 26, was found at a depth of 90m in a cave at around 4pm today.
"The condition of the body had begun to decompose," he said when met here.
He said it was challenging to identify the body due to the decayed physical condition. He said Deoxyribonucleic acid ( DNA ) blood samples from the victim's family were needed for identification.
Jawai said the search which began at 11.35am led to them retrieving parts of the victim's body.
"Efforts to bring out the victim's body took a long time because the path to enter the hole was narrow and difficult.
"In fact, when the team entered the area, they also found that it was flooded," he said.
Jawai said the body would be sent to the Bau Hospital's forensic department for identification.
The case is classified as a sudden death.
