Passengers escape unscathed after Sg Petani bus catches fire

SUNGAI PETANI: A bus with eight people on board caught fire while travelling along Jalan Kuala Ketil here today.

Sungai Petani fire station chief Ismail Mohd Zain said no one was injured in the 4.30pm incident as the driver and seven passengers managed to escape.

He said firemen were promptly despatched to the scene after distress calls were received at 4.36pm.

"The fire involved a bus with registration number WRJ 4133. The bus was traveling from Baling to Sungai Petani with seven passengers and a driver on board.

"All passengers managed to escape without injury," he said in a statement, adding that the fire destroyed 60 per cent of the vehicle.

He said firefighting operations concluded at 4.57pm.

"The estimated losses and cause of the fire are still under investigation," he added.
