KUALA MUDA: Seven shoplots were destroyed when fire broke out at a grocery hypermarket in Kampung Masjid, Sungai Petani, here today.
Tikam Batu fire station chief Muhamad Syukri Hashim said distress calls were received at 10.54am, and firefighters were promptly despatched to the scene.
He said there were no casualties in the incident.
"Upon arrival, it was found that a fire had broken out at the hypermarket. A total of 17 lots inside the hypermarket were affected, including the seven lots which were destroyed.
"Fire damage is estimated at 40 per cent. Firefighting operations were successful in containing the blaze, and no victims were reported," he said in a statement.
He added that operations were still ongoing, with the fire brought under control by 11.41am.
