Youths charged in molotov cocktail incident push for case dismissal  

KUALA LUMPUR: Four youths accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at an entertainment club in May are seeking to have the charges against them dropped.

Their lawyer, Haziq Aizuddin Subhi, said a representation was sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers yesterday on their behalf.

Haziq is representing Muhammad Hasan Abd Hamid, 29, Muhamad Nur Kholis Muhammad Syaikhudin, 23, M. Preemraj, 25, and Nor Rahman Sadik, 25.

"The Sessions Court has set Sept 25 for case management and to decide on the representation. If the request is rejected, we will submit a second representation," Haziq said after proceedings before Judge Datuk Nu'aman Mahmud Zuhudi.

In May, the four were charged commit mischief by throwing lit bottles at the front door of the club. 

The accused work as a delivery man, tow truck assistant, and security guards.

The offence occurred at 2.17am on May 9 in front of the club on Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. 

They face charges under Section 109 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 435, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and a fine upon conviction.

Their actions were caught on a 45-second closed-circuit television recording, which later went viral.

The footage shows four men on two motorcycles stopping in front of the premises and throwing Molotov cocktails before fleeing.

Another 42-second viral video shows the premises on fire, with bystanders attempting to extinguish the flames.
