'Tanjak' trader, single mother charged with robbing five foreigners

MUAR:  A traditional headgear trader and a single mother were charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday with robbing five foreigners in this district and Tangkak.

Abd Aziz Alhaffiz Ali, 36, and Jamiyana Ab Aziz, 38, pleaded guilty to six charges read out together before Judge Nariman Badruddin.

In the first three charges, they were charged with committing group robbery against three foreign nationals in front of a supermarket in Tanjung Agas, Tangkak, and Kampung Sabak Aur.

They are alleged to have robbed RM620 in cash, a wristwatch, and a mobile phone from the victims between 2.30p, and 5pm on Aug 17.

For the fourth to sixth charges, they were accused of robbing jewellery, including rings, earrings, and necklaces belonging to two foreign nationals in a car at Parit Zin Bakri, Batu 6, between 5pm and 6am on Aug 5.

They were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment and caning or fines for each charge.

The prosecution is handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Aquiilah Mohd Rofaie, while the accused were not represented.

The court set Sept 24 for mention, and both accused were granted bail of RM30,000 for all charges.
