IGP: Police finalising probe papers on assault allegedly linked to royalty

KUANTAN: Police are wrapping up investigations into the alleged assault of a construction worker by a group of men, which purportedly included a member of the royal family.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the investigation paper is expected to be completed and submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) within the next few days.

"We had earlier submitted the investigation papers to the AGC, but they were however returned for further investigations.

"Police have taken the necessary actions, and maybe in the next three or four days, once we have completed all the requirements, the investigation papers will be resubmitted to the AGC for further instruction," he told reporters during a press conference at the Pahang police contingent headquarters here today.

It was reported last week that a 44-year-old man claimed he was assaulted by 20 people, including a member of the royalty, at a stable in June.

He claimed that the assault was linked to a land dispute in Rompin.

Later, the same day, Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah called for a transparent probe into the alleged assault saying that no one is above the law.

On Sept 6, Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman assured that there would be no cover-up or delays in the police's probe.
