Police: No cover-up in Pahang assault probe allegedly involving royalty

KUANTAN: The state's top cop has vowed a transparent probe into the alleged assault of a construction worker by a group of men which purportedly included a member of the royal family.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said there would be no cover-up in the police's probe.

"Investigations are transparent and there are no delays," he said when contacted today.

"We previously sent the investigation papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor but it was returned for further investigations."

Once completed, the investigation papers would be resubmitted to the deputy public prosecutor, he said.

Yesterday, Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah called for a fair and transparent probe into the alleged assault.

Tengku Hassanal said no one was above the law and this included members of the royalty.

Earlier, a 44-year-old man claimed he was assaulted by 20 people including a member of the royalty at a stable in June.

He alleged the assault was linked to a dispute over land in Rompin.
