GOF seizes over RM330,000 in smuggled cosmetics, pork

KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized various smuggled goods, including cosmetics and pork, worth more than RM330,000 last Thursday.

The GOF also arrested two men acting as transporters during the raid carried out in Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan in three separate locations in Tumpat and Rantau Panjang.

Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the raids were the result of public tip-offs and intelligence work by Battalion 8 and Battalion 9 of the GOF.

He said the first raid took place at 8am in Jeram Perdah, involving grocery items worth RM10,000, where one transporter was arrested.

"The second raid, conducted at 6pm at an illegal base in Lubok Gong, Rantau Panjang, led to the seizure of several boxes containing cosmetics worth RM143,000.

"During the raid, several men were unloading the smuggled boxes from Thailand but fled back to the country using boats after realising the presence of authorities.

"The third raid, conducted at 11pm at another illegal base in Yassin, Rantau Panjang, successfully seized 400 litres of petrol and 180 litres of diesel worth RM31,464 after stopping a suspiciously driven car," he said when contacted by BH.

He added that the final raid, at midnight, led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of pork worth RM152,000.

He said the raid, conducted in Kampung Mentua, Tumpat, took place after a lorry driven by a man was stopped, revealing 4,000 kilogrammes of pork inside the vehicle.

"The pork was smuggled from Thailand without proper documentation," he said.
