KOTA BARU: Police officers stationed along the Kelantan-Thai border have been instructed to remain vigilant for any attempts by individuals to cross into Thailand following a crackdown on Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd (GISB).
Acting Kelantan police chief, Deputy Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby said they were also ordered to beef up their surveillance on any unwanted movement along the border.
"The Kelantan border control is always on standby. Officers on duty are instructed to closely observe and monitor the situation. We do not want unwanted elements to use the state's border to cross into the neighbouring country," he said.
This directive comes after five men attempted to leave Malaysia in motorhomes displaying the GISB logo.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that the men were arrested while trying to cross the border at Bukit Kayu Hitam.
A border intelligence unit detected the two motorhomes, which had Dubai license plates, heading toward the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine & Security Complex around 6pm.
Police intercepted the vehicles and arrested the five men, aged between 28 and 41, seizing both motorhomes and a car.
Last Wednesday, police launched 'Op Global' on welfare homes operated by GISB.
Twenty homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan were raided, and more than 300 children were rescued.
Screenings revealed that many of the children had physical and emotional injuries, with at least 13 allegedly sodomised.
GISB has since denied all allegations of child exploitation and sexual abuse.
