GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government said the authorities have raided four premises linked to GISB Holdings (GISBH) in the state today (Sept 21).
Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the premises are Rumah Jagaan Harapan Al Mahabbah in Bagan Buaya Changkat, Nibong Tebal; Rumah Permata Kasih Taman Seri Mengkuang in Kubang Semang; and Kedai Kek Dan Roti Ikhwan and Ikhwan BP Mart in Bandar Perda.
He said the Penang Islamic Religious Department (JHEAIPP) also seized six books suspected to be related to Al Arqam, which had been banned.
"This offence is related to the provisions of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment of Penang (EKJSNPP 1996), specifically Section 13(1)(b), which pertains to possessing any book, pamphlet, document or other forms of such recordings.
"Investigations are ongoing and the authorities are reviewing the evidence.
"We will not compromise if there is any legal violation or misconduct involving the premises or operations of GISB.
"I want to emphasise that the state government is committed to ensuring that every action taken is based on facts and evidence. We will not make any hasty decisions or act on speculation," he said today (Sept 21).
As such, Mohamad advised all parties not to spread inaccurate information that could create confusion and tension in the community.
"We also want to remind the public that this issue does not only involve corporate entities but also touch on compliance with the law and the moral principles we uphold.
"Thus, it is important for all parties to adhere to the law and operate with integrity.
"The state government will continue to monitor the developments of this investigation and work closely with the authorities to ensure that this issue is resolved fairly.
"Should there be any further development, we will inform the public," he added.
The 'New Straits Times' reported earlier today that children and infants had been rescued from a welfare home linked to GISBH.
It is understood that some people were taken away in police vehicles, and the rescued children and infants were placed into a van.
Meanwhile, several businesses linked to GISBH in Penang have closed down.
These include eateries, grocery stores and second-hand clothing shops. The shops' signboards and banners have been removed.
